In February of 2022, Rockstar Games made public its development of Grand Theft Auto 6.

On Wednesday, president Sam Houser released a statement saying the company’s first trailer would be shown off in December in honor of the firm’s silver anniversary.

When the original Grand Theft Auto game came out in 1997, critics were divided. After 25 years, the franchise has received widespread praise, sold over 405 million copies, and is routinely named among the best and most successful video games of all time.

Rockstar Games and Rockstar North won the Bafta Academy Fellowship Award and best studio and best developer at the 10th British Academy Video Games Awards for Grand Theft Auto 5.

After much anticipation and rumors that had been rumbling for nearly a decade, the announcement sent fans into a frenzy.

Snippets of information

A leak of over 90 videos and screenshots from a pre-production version of GTA 6 appeared online in September, and it was the biggest story until Wednesday.

As Rockstar stated it, “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.”

“We are incredibly disappointed to have any details of our forthcoming game shared with you all in this way. When this new game is ready, we will send out another update and formally announce it to you.

Although Rockstar claimed the gameplay shown was still in the very early phases of development, the leak gave fans their first peek at potential plots, characters, and settings.

Video showed a present-day Vice City, with Jason and Lucia as playable characters entering a strip club and robbing a cafe, evoking comparisons to the Bonnie and Clyde heist.

Where did all this time go?

The longest gap between main-series Grand Theft Auto games prior to 2013’s GTA 5 was four years.

Video game developers no longer need to create a totally new product from scratch because to improvements in gaming technology, consoles, and online play.

Studios can expand their games’ content with less people, money, and time, thanks to the inclusion of minigames.

Rockstar, a studio under Take-Two Interactive Software Inc, is known for producing games with stunning visuals. Even a decade after its release, Grand Theft Auto 5’s rendering of Los Santos is remarkable.

Take-Two’s newly patented locomotive technology will allow for “highly dynamic and realistic animations” in Grand Theft Auto 6, with players’ in-game avatars moving around and reacting to their environs in a natural way.

Rockstar Games is responsible for more than only the Grand Theft Auto series, all of which receive regular updates.

Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar’s frequent-updates open-world Wild West shooter franchise, is the company’s second best-seller.

Rockstar has released collections and remastered previous Grand Theft Auto games in an effort to satiate fans’ appetite for GTA 6, but demand for the next chapter in the series has never been higher.
